Playing movies, TV shows, and videos

Starting or continuing

Open a title and press Play. If Frame finds a saved position, it will ask whether you want to Continue from that point or use Start to play from the beginning.

With Jellyfin, progress can sync to your account when connected. With FTP and SFTP, it is saved on the device.

Main controls

During playback, you can:

  • Pause and Play.
  • Rewind 10 seconds and Fast forward 30 seconds.
  • Seek using the playback bar.
  • Move to the Previous episode or Next episode, when available.
  • Open Configuration to change quality, audio, and subtitles.
  • Use Back to leave the player.

If the controls disappear, tap the video area or move the pointer to show them. You can prevent them from disappearing through Settings > Hide player controls > Never hide.

Choosing audio and subtitles

  1. Open Configuration in the player.
  2. Under Audio, select one of the available tracks.
  3. Under Subtitles, select a track or choose Off.

Languages and tracks depend on the video. Selecting a track does not create additional translations.

To have the screen reader announce subtitles, enable Settings > Subtitle Reading (TTS) and select a subtitle track in the player. Reading requires available text; subtitles that are only part of the image cannot be announced this way.

Choosing quality in Jellyfin

Under Configuration > Video Quality, choose the profile you want to use:

  • Direct Play: plays content without requesting a reduction in quality. It may require a fast connection.
  • High, Medium, Low, Very Low, and Minimal: request progressively lower quality to reduce data usage and make playback easier on slow connections.

The ability to change quality depends on the server and your account permissions. To set your usual preferences, use Settings > Video quality on Wi-Fi and Video quality on mobile data. Always ask lets you choose before playback.

If your connection switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data, Frame may ask whether you want to apply the profile for the new connection. Press Change to accept or Cancel to keep the current one.

Jellyfin's server-side quality adjustment is not available with FTP and SFTP.

Episodes, intros, and credits

Enable Autoplay next episode in Settings if you want to continue when an episode ends.

The Skip Intro / Credits option lets you choose:

  • Disabled: does not use segment skipping.
  • Manual: offers a skip action when a segment has been identified.
  • Automatic: skips identified segments without requiring you to activate the button.

These options require the server to provide intro or credits information. Availability may vary between titles.
