Who is behind MCV Software?
MCV Software is the professional brand of Manuel Cortez and the home of the applications presented on this site. The projects cover different interests and everyday needs, with accessibility as a recurring concern in their development.
Understanding a project means learning how people will use it: what they need to do, where they run into difficulties and what they expect to happen next. That understanding informs the technical decisions, from the way information is organized to the controls someone uses to complete a task.
Experience that shapes the work
Learning from everyday use
Manuel has spent 11 years teaching assistive technology. Helping people use these tools brings everyday difficulties into focus: a control that cannot be reached with a keyboard, information a screen reader does not announce, or a task that takes too many steps. Those experiences help guide the design of our applications.
Developing and running MCVHost
MCVHost has provided streaming services since 2016. Our work includes developing autoMCC, our radio automation panel, as well as the website, APIs and integrations used to run the service. Developing that software while maintaining the infrastructure gives us direct experience of how technical decisions work out in daily use.
How we develop our applications
We start with the task the software needs to support and the people who will use it. From there, we work through the interface, the information it handles and what will be needed to maintain it. Accessibility belongs in those decisions, including keyboard navigation, screen-reader feedback and clear explanations of what is happening.
