Accessibility and keyboard navigation

Frame includes labels for screen readers and keyboard navigation. Cards may announce the title and other available information, as well as their position in a list.

Using a screen reader

Turn on your device's screen reader before using Frame. On Android, you can navigate and activate controls using the usual TalkBack gestures.

On Windows, navigate controls with the keyboard. If your screen reader intercepts arrow keys or shortcuts, use its application interaction mode to send the keys to Frame.

The information announced depends on the content. If a video has no runtime, year, or synopsis, those details may not be included in the announcement.

In menus, lists, and grids organized into sections:

  • Tab moves to the next section.
  • Shift + Tab returns to the previous section.
  • The arrow keys move between items in the active section.
  • Enter activates the selected item or button.

Forms and dialogs may have a different control sequence. Use Tab to move through their fields and buttons.

Player shortcuts

These shortcuts work when the player has focus. If you are in a dialog or another control, the keys may act on that control instead.

| Key | Action | | --- | --- | | Space | Pause or resume. | | Right arrow | Fast forward 30 seconds. | | Left arrow | Rewind 10 seconds. | | Up arrow | Increase volume. | | Down arrow | Decrease volume. | | A | Cycle through available audio tracks. | | S | Change the subtitle selection. | | Q | Cycle through quality profiles. | | Esc | Leave the player. |

You can also use the player buttons and its Configuration menu to select a specific option.

Listening to subtitles

  1. Enable Settings > Subtitle Reading (TTS).
  2. Open a video and go to Configuration > Subtitles.
  3. Select a track that provides text.
  4. Keep the screen reader enabled to receive announcements.

This option does not generate subtitles or read those that are only part of the image. If they are not announced, try another available track.

To keep controls accessible for longer, change Settings > Hide player controls to Never hide.
