What is MCV DJ?
MCV DJ is a desktop application for preparing and presenting music programs and broadcasting them to Icecast2 servers. It brings together music playback, a microphone and the sounds that accompany a show, so you can manage your program from one console.
You can work with two decks to choose when each track starts and how it blends into the next, or prepare a playlist and let the queue handle the transitions. Private headphone listening lets you check a song before bringing it into the broadcast. This leaves room for both a carefully prepared music selection and changes you decide to make during the show.
Music, voice and the sound of your station
Presenting a program also means introducing songs, reading a message or making room for a conversation. MCV DJ mixes your microphone with the music and can lower the tracks automatically while you speak. Voice processing lets you adjust the microphone sound alongside the rest of the mix.
Two banks of eight sounds keep effects, station IDs and liners available during the show. Along with your music and voice, these sounds become part of the mix sent to your Icecast2 server. You can also send song information or a program title for your listeners.
Keyboard use and accessibility
MCV DJ includes customizable keyboard shortcuts and screen-reader support. Position and level readouts can be requested when you need them, rather than interrupting you continuously while you listen to the program. Practical validation with NVDA is still ongoing as development continues.
Still in development
MCV DJ is an experimental product developed by MCV Software. Before using it for a live program, we recommend trying the application with your audio devices, playlists and broadcast server to make sure it works as expected in your setup.
The application is available in English and Spanish. See the documentation for setup instructions and current limitations.
