Connecting to Jellyfin

Have your server address and your Jellyfin username and password ready.

  1. Open Frame and choose Add new server.
  2. Select Jellyfin.
  3. If Frame finds the server on your local network, select it. You can also enter its address in Server URL.
  4. Press Connect to check the address.
  5. Enter your Username and Password and complete the sign-in process.

Use the address provided by the person who manages the server, including any port or path it contains. An example of a local address is 192.168.1.5:8096. A local address usually requires you to be connected to the same network as the server.

Signing in with Quick Connect

If the server allows this option, you can authorize Frame from an existing Jellyfin session:

  1. Select the server in Frame.
  2. Press Use Quick Connect.
  3. Read the code shown by Frame.
  4. In the other Jellyfin client, open Quick Connect and enter the code to authorize access.
  5. Wait for Frame to finish signing in.

If the option does not appear or does not work, sign in with your username and password or contact the person who manages the server.

Connecting to FTP or SFTP

  1. Choose Add new server.
  2. Select SFTP (SSH) or FTP / FTPS, depending on the access details you were given.
  3. Enter a name to identify the connection, if you wish.
  4. Fill in Host or IP address, Port, Username, and Password.
  5. If you want a specific folder to open when you connect, enter the Initial remote path. Otherwise, leave it as /.
  6. Press Connect Server.

The form suggests port 22 for SFTP and port 21 for FTP. Change it if your server details specify a different port. Choose the connection type specified by the administrator; they are not interchangeable.

Playing your first video

With Jellyfin:

  1. Open Libraries and select a library.
  2. Open the movie or TV show you want to watch.
  3. For a TV show, select the season and episode.
  4. Press Play. If there is saved progress, choose whether to continue or start from the beginning.

With FTP or SFTP, browse the folders in the file explorer and select a video to play it.

Adding or switching servers

Open Settings > Account. You can select one of your saved servers there or press Add new server to set up another one.

When you reopen Frame, the application tries to restore the active connection. If it cannot reach Jellyfin and you have downloads available, you can continue watching content saved on the device.
