Troubleshooting and frequently asked questions
Start by reading Audio engine status, the connection status and, if applicable, Settings status. Note the exact message: file, device and connection errors need different actions.
The song is playing, but I hear nothing
Check, in this order:
- Monitor through speakers / headphones is checked.
- The deck has a track loaded and is playing.
- The deck and master volumes are not at zero.
- The crossfader is not all the way to the opposite side.
- Audio > Main output… has the device you are actually listening through.
- Windows, speakers and headphones are not muted.
If you were using Prelisten, check the prelisten output and Headphone volume. Prelisten does not send the track to the program output.
The time or meter does not change
Press Refresh position and levels. Readings are on request by default. To have them change during playback, enable Live position and levels under View > Language and display….
My microphone cannot be heard
Check the input under Audio > Input device…, press Enable microphone and uncheck Mute microphone. Check microphone and master volumes, the device's physical switch and Windows microphone access permissions.
If you want to hear yourself locally, also enable mix monitoring. Turning monitoring off does not mean the microphone has stopped being sent to a connected broadcast.
There is a whistle, or I hear my voice repeated
Mute the microphone or lower monitoring while you correct the situation. Use headphones to prevent speaker audio from feeding back into the microphone.
If you are also listening to your station's public stream, close it or listen separately: it is delayed and can repeat your voice. The app does not include echo cancellation. Listening to both an interface's direct monitoring and the app's monitoring can also produce a duplicated, delayed voice.
A device is missing or listed as unavailable
Connect it, check that Windows recognizes it and use Refresh microphones or Refresh outputs. Select an available device before enabling its function.
If the audio engine stopped working after disconnecting an output, reconnect the device and restart the app if it does not recover. Check all devices before broadcasting again.
I cannot load or control a deck
The queue controls both decks while active, even if its panel is hidden. Press Stop queue to regain manual control. Also check that the deck is not still loading a file.
The queue will not start or stops at a track
Before starting the queue, pause both manual decks. Check that there are upcoming tracks and their files are still available.
If a file cannot be prepared, review the error, remove that entry or fix the file and try again. The app may wait at the end of a track if the next one is not ready yet; this does not necessarily mean it skipped it.
A playlist or cart can no longer find its files
Playlists and settings do not include copies of audio. If you moved, renamed or deleted the originals, restore their location or reload them from the new folder. For a USB drive or external disk, check that it is still connected.
If a cart rejects a very long file, use it in a deck or queue. Carts have memory limits for short sounds.
The broadcast will not connect
Check that the server hostname does not include http://, https://, a port or a path. Verify the Harbor port, mountpoint, username and password with your station administrator.
The TLS option must match what that port supports. Also check your Internet connection. If the message indicates rejected authentication, correct the credentials and reconnect. If it indicates a rejected mountpoint, confirm its value and check that another DJ is not occupying the input.
Listener connection details may differ from broadcast details. Do not try random ports or passwords: request the station's input information.
Does the mountpoint have to be /live?
No. /live is the initial value and a valid example. You can use another mountpoint configured on your server, provided it starts with / and meets the field's rules. For example, directo needs the leading slash: /directo.
I disabled monitoring, but the radio is still playing
This is expected. Local monitoring and broadcasting are independent. To stop sending to the server, press Disconnect broadcast. To stop sending a particular source, stop or mute that source.
The title does not change, but audio is reaching the server
Check whether manual metadata mode is active and whether you confirmed the text with Send manual metadata. Check metadata status as well as the displayed title. If the server rejects the update or does not publish the final title, ask for the station configuration to be checked.
During queue playback, the automatic title changes halfway through the crossfade. In a manual mix, moving the crossfader does not select another deck's metadata by itself.
My preferences are not restored on launch
Check the settings messages. If the saved file could not be read, the app preserves it and does not overwrite it during that session. Follow Saved settings and backups to make a backup and, if necessary, start with fresh settings.
Not all controls are saved. The queue requires a saved playlist, and voice processing and music ducking when speaking must be prepared again in this version.
What information to gather when reporting a problem
Check the version under Help > About MCV DJ… and note your Windows version, what you were trying to do, steps to reproduce the issue and the exact message. For audio issues, include the devices used. For accessibility issues, include the screen reader and affected control.
You can enable View > Show diagnostics for additional audio information. Do not include passwords or share the entire settings file in a public report.
