Download and portable setup
MCV DJ is distributed only as a portable application. This means you download a ZIP file, extract its contents to a folder and run the program from there. There is no installation wizard.
Download the application
- Open your web browser.
- Visit the MCV DJ download page.
- Download the portable package for 64-bit Windows.
- Wait for the download to finish. You will usually find the file in your Windows Downloads folder unless you chose another location.
The package is a file with the .zip extension. A ZIP combines several files and folders into a single download. You must extract them before using the app.
Extract and open MCV DJ
- Find the downloaded ZIP in File Explorer.
- Right-click it and choose Extract All…. With the keyboard, you can open the context menu with Shift+F10.
- Choose a folder where you want to keep the program, such as a folder named
MCV DJinside Documents. - Confirm the extraction.
- Open the destination folder and find
mcvdj.exe. If Windows hides file extensions, it may appear asmcvdj, with the type Application. - Double-click the file, or select it and press Enter.
Run the extracted copy instead of opening the program from inside the ZIP. Keep the license files and documentation supplied with the executable as well.
For easier access, you can create a shortcut to mcvdj.exe. A shortcut points to the program; it is not another copy. If you later move the app's folder, you may need to create a new shortcut.
Choose the language
The interface is in English on the first launch. To select or change the language:
- Open View > Language and display…. With the keyboard, press Alt+V, use the Down arrow to find Language and display, then press Enter.
- Find the Language selector.
- Select English to use this guide's control names, or Español for Spanish.
- Press Close to return to the console.
The language is saved for future launches.
Where your settings are stored
Although the program is portable, its settings are stored in your Windows user profile, separately from the executable. Replacing the program folder therefore does not normally erase your preferences.
Taking the folder on a USB drive does not automatically take your settings to another computer. See Saved settings and backups for their location and precautions when moving them.
Update
- Save the queue as a playlist if you want to keep it.
- Disconnect the broadcast and close MCV DJ.
- Download the new ZIP from the download page.
- Extract the new version to a new folder, or replace the files in the previous folder while the app is closed.
- Open the new
mcvdj.exeand check your devices and settings before broadcasting.
MCV DJ does not download or install updates automatically.
Remove the application
Close MCV DJ and delete the folder where you extracted the program and any shortcuts you created. This does not delete settings saved in your Windows profile, music files or playlists.
