Getting to know the interface and settings

The main MCV DJ window is your working console. It contains the controls you use during playback and broadcasting. The menus open setup options in a separate settings window.

The main console

Broadcast and current title

The top area shows the connection status, Connect broadcast and Disconnect broadcast buttons, and the current program or track title. A displayed title alone does not mean there is an active connection: check the broadcast status too.

Monitoring and levels

Monitor through speakers / headphones lets you hear the mix through the main output. Refresh position and levels requests a reading of playback times and audio levels.

By default, these readings do not update continuously. This reduces repeated announcements when using a screen reader. If you prefer continuous updates, enable Live position and levels under View > Language and display….

Decks

The Deck A and Deck B panels show the loaded file, its time, and playback, position, volume and prelisten controls. You can prepare a track on one deck while the other is playing.

Mixer

Crossfader, deck A to deck B determines how much of each deck is heard. Master volume adjusts the overall mix, and Headphone volume adjusts private prelisten.

Microphone

Here you can enable or disable capture, mute your voice and adjust its volume. Device selection and voice processing are in the Audio menu.

Carts and queue

Carts provide buttons for effects and liners. The queue lets you prepare a sequence of files and control automatic playback.

If the queue is not visible, enable View > Show queue. For carts, use View > Show carts. Hiding a panel does not stop its sounds or disable its shortcuts.

With the mouse, you can scroll the console to reach controls that do not fit in the window. With the keyboard, use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through the controls. If you use NVDA, this moves focus between controls so the screen reader can announce them; you do not need to find the scrollbar visually.

Audio status

Audio engine status displays operating information and possible errors. Check this field if something does not respond as expected. View > Show diagnostics adds information that can help investigate problems.

What each menu contains

| Menu | Purpose | | --- | --- | | File | Load files into the decks, add music to the queue, import or save playlists, and exit. | | Audio | Select the microphone, main output and headphones; configure voice processing and music ducking. | | Carts | Prepare effects and liners or stop all their sounds. | | Broadcast | Configure the server, credentials, encoder and metadata; connect or disconnect. | | View | Show or hide panels and diagnostics; change the language and reading updates. | | Help | Configure shortcuts, open the project website and check the version. |

How the settings window works

Choosing an option such as Audio > Input device… opens settings at the corresponding section. A section selector lets you switch to other options without reopening the menus.

Changes take effect as you make them; there is no general button to save all settings. Closing the window does not cancel changes. Settings that the app keeps between sessions are saved automatically.

Opening or closing settings does not stop playback or broadcasting. Return to the console with Close or Escape. If a drop-down list is open, Escape may close that list first.

While broadcasting is active, the server and encoder fields are disabled. Disconnect the broadcast before changing them.
