Metadata: the title your audience receives
Metadata is the text identifying what is playing, such as an artist and song name or your program title. It is not audio: changing the title does not change what is heard.
MCV DJ offers an automatic mode based on the files you play and a manual mode to keep text of your choice. Open Broadcast > Program metadata… to configure them.
Automatic mode
The app tries to read the artist and title stored in the audio file. If it finds no title, it uses the filename without its folder. If the artist is missing, it uses only the available title.
During manual playback, metadata follows the last deck started manually or the one you choose with Use metadata from deck A or Use metadata from deck B. Loading a file into the other deck does not change the announcement by itself.
During a manual mix, moving the crossfader does not automatically select a new title. Use the corresponding deck button if you need to explicitly choose which one to announce.
Queue metadata
While the queue controls playback, automatic selection follows its tracks. During a crossfade, it keeps the outgoing title until halfway through the transition, then switches to the incoming title.
If you choose a deck's metadata during queue playback, that selection takes effect when the queue releases the decks. It does not immediately replace the title managed by the queue.
Keep a program title
Manual mode lets you announce, for example, “Afternoon Music” even as songs change.
- Open Broadcast > Program metadata….
- Check Use manual broadcast metadata.
- Enter a Title or program. This field is required to send manual text.
- Optionally, fill in Artist.
- Press Send manual metadata to confirm the text.
The submitted text remains through track changes until you leave manual mode. Editing the fields without pressing Send manual metadata does not confirm the new announcement. You can prepare and confirm the title before connecting; the app sends the current announcement when the connection is established.
To return to automatic tracking, uncheck manual mode or press Use metadata from deck A or Use metadata from deck B.
Check the result
Current broadcast title shows the text the app intends to announce. Broadcast metadata status indicates whether the server confirmed the update. These are different: text may appear in the app even if sending it failed.
A metadata failure does not necessarily stop audio. The app retries sending the title and resends it on reconnection. For it to reach listeners' players, the station server must be configured to preserve and publish that metadata.
The title may appear slightly out of sync with what the audience hears, because audio and metadata follow different processing paths. Prelisten and cart sounds do not automatically replace song titles.
