Play queue and saved playlists

The queue plays a sequence of files and handles transitions automatically. It is useful for preparing a music block without starting each song manually.

Prepare and start a queue

  1. Enable View > Show queue if the panel is not visible.
  2. Press Add files… in the queue or File menu.
  3. Select one or more files and confirm. Repeat this step to add more music.
  4. Check the order in Upcoming tracks, position and title. The initial order depends on the file picker; check it before starting.
  5. Adjust Crossfade (seconds).
  6. Make sure both manual decks are paused.
  7. Press Play queue.

The queue uses both decks. Their volumes, master volume, microphone and local monitoring remain available, but the queue starts the tracks and moves the crossfader.

Choose the transition

Queue crossfade supports 0 to 30 seconds. The initial value is 3 seconds. With 0, tracks do not overlap. With a higher value, the incoming song starts while the previous one is ending.

For very short tracks, the app automatically shortens the crossfade to fit the file durations.

Pause, advance and stop

  • Pause queue keeps the current position. Any crossfade in progress is paused too.
  • Resume queue continues paused playback.
  • Next track requests a transition to the next song using the configured crossfade. If the app is still preparing it, the current track continues until it is ready.
  • Stop after current track lets that track finish and leaves upcoming tracks waiting. If a crossfade has already started, the incoming track shown in the status is considered current.
  • Stop queue immediately cuts queue music and returns the interrupted track to the beginning of the upcoming list. When you restart, that track starts from zero. Finished tracks do not return to the list.

When there are no more tracks, the queue stops. Stopping it does not disable the microphone or disconnect the broadcast: if you remain connected, other sources still contribute to the mix.

Change the order

Select a pending track in Upcoming tracks, position and title. Then use Move up, Move down, Move first, Move last or Remove.

To place it at a specific position, enter the number in Destination position and press Move to position. The first position is 1.

Undo edit reverses the last addition, removal or move. It does not rewind playback or restore songs that have already finished. The current track is shown separately and cannot be removed from the upcoming selector.

Check the status

Read queue status moves focus to a text field with the status, current track, remaining time and next track. This is useful with screen readers. For updated times, also use Refresh position and levels, or enable live readings.

Save a playlist

  1. Prepare the queue you want to keep.
  2. Press Save playlist….
  3. Choose a folder and name.
  4. Keep the file with the .mcvplaylist extension.

The playlist saves references to the current and upcoming tracks, along with the crossfade duration. It does not include audio files or save the exact playback position. Songs that have already finished are not added back to the saved playlist.

The queue is not restored automatically after closing the app. Save a playlist before exiting if you want to use it again.

Import and move playlists

Import playlist… adds its tracks to the end of the upcoming list and applies its crossfade duration to future transitions. It does not replace the queue or start playback by itself when stopped. The format is specific to MCV DJ; it is not an M3U or PLS playlist.

If you move a playlist to another computer, take the music too. Whenever possible, save the playlist in a folder containing its audio files and preserve the subfolder structure. References to files in other folders or drives may stop working when moved.
