These terms of service constitute an agreement between you (the user) and TWBlue, a free and open-source social media client developed and maintained by MCV Software. By downloading, installing, or using TWBlue, you agree to these terms.
1. License and Usage
1.1. Open Source License
TWBlue is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). You are free to use, study, modify, and distribute TWBlue in accordance with the terms of the GPL license. The source code is available on GitHub.
1.2. No Warranty
TWBlue is provided 'as is' without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. MCV Software does not guarantee that TWBlue will meet your requirements or that its operation will be uninterrupted or error-free.
1.3. System Requirements
The user is responsible for ensuring their computer system meets the minimum requirements to run TWBlue, including hardware, operating system, and internet connectivity. Any costs related to these requirements are solely the user's responsibility.
2. Third-Party Services
2.1. Social Network Accounts
TWBlue is a client application that connects to Mastodon and GoToSocial instances. To use TWBlue, you must have an active account on at least one of these supported platforms. TWBlue does not create, manage, or control these accounts.
Your use of Mastodon and GoToSocial services through TWBlue is subject to the terms of service and privacy policies of the respective instances where your accounts are registered.
2.2. Translation Services
TWBlue offers optional integration with third-party translation services such as LibreTranslate and DeepL. If you choose to use these features, your use is subject to the terms and policies of those respective services.
2.3. OCR Services
When using the optical character recognition (OCR) feature for images, TWBlue may send image URLs to third-party OCR services. This data transmission is necessary for the feature to function and is subject to the terms of the OCR service provider.
3. User Responsibilities
3.1. Lawful Use
You agree to use TWBlue only for lawful purposes and in accordance with the terms of service of any social networks you access through the application.
3.2. Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for any content you post, share, or transmit using TWBlue. MCV Software does not monitor, control, or take responsibility for user-generated content.
3.3. Security
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your computer system, including the TWBlue configuration directory where access tokens and settings are stored. MCV Software recommends using appropriate security measures to protect your system from unauthorized access.
4. Intellectual Property
TWBlue is developed and maintained by MCV Software and contributors. While the software is open source and licensed under GPL, the TWBlue name, logo, and associated branding remain the intellectual property of MCV Software.
Soundpacks and other supplementary materials distributed through TWBlue may be subject to separate copyright terms by their respective creators.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MCV Software and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages resulting from:
- The use or inability to use TWBlue
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
- Actions taken by third-party services accessed through TWBlue
- Any other matter relating to TWBlue
6. Updates and Modifications
MCV Software may release updates, patches, or new versions of TWBlue at any time. While we strive to maintain backward compatibility, we do not guarantee that all features will function identically across versions.
TWBlue may be discontinued or modified at any time without prior notice. MCV Software is not obligated to provide updates, maintenance, or support for TWBlue.
7. Community Contributions
As an open-source project, TWBlue welcomes contributions from the community. By submitting code, documentation, soundpacks, or other materials to the TWBlue project, you grant MCV Software and the TWBlue project the right to use, modify, and distribute your contributions under the terms of the GPL license.
8. Termination
You may stop using TWBlue at any time by uninstalling the application and deleting its configuration files from your computer. These terms will continue to apply to your past use of TWBlue.
9. Changes to These Terms
MCV Software reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Updated terms will be posted at https://mcvsoftware.com/twblue/terms/. Continued use of TWBlue after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
10. Applicable Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
